Description of Service
Alfred Scholar is a research platform that lets you upload papers, ask questions about your documents, manage citations, check a manuscript for originality, write it up, and collaborate with your team. We provide these tools through a web application accessible at our website.
Account Terms
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the service.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your password and account.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- One person may not maintain more than one trial account for abusive or evasive purposes.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any illegal purpose or to violate any laws.
- Upload content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the platform.
- Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the service.
- Use originality reports to try to reconstruct, extract, or infer the contents of documents that are not yours.
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers connected to the service.
- Share your account credentials with others or allow others to access your account.
Your Content
You retain ownership of all documents, manuscripts, citations, and other content you upload or create on Alfred Scholar. By using the service, you grant us a limited licence to process, store, and display your content in order to provide the service.
That licence covers one use beyond your own workspace, and we would rather state it plainly than bury it. Documents uploaded to Alfred Scholar are fingerprinted and become part of the corpus that originality checks run against, including checks run from other workspaces, in the same way that documents uploaded by others are part of the corpus your own checks run against. A report generated in another workspace can show that a match occurred and name the matching document's title; it never exposes the text of your document, the passage that matched, or anything about you or your workspace. Deleting a document removes it from that corpus. The Privacy Policy describes how this works in detail.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell it or share it with advertisers.
You are solely responsible for the content you upload. You represent that you have the right to upload and use any content you provide.
Intellectual Property
The Alfred Scholar platform, including its design, code, features, and branding, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or branding without our prior written consent.
AI-Generated Content
Alfred Scholar uses artificial intelligence to provide features such as document chat, writing assistance, and originality checking. AI-generated responses are provided for informational purposes only. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI outputs. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying any AI-generated content before relying on it.
Originality Reports
Originality reports are not a determination of plagiarism or academic misconduct. They are an automated signal: the checker compares your manuscript against open-access scholarly literature, the public web, and documents held on Alfred Scholar, and reports where the wording overlaps. Overlap has innocent explanations, including quoted material, standard methods sections, your own earlier work, and common phrasing in a field.
An originality score is therefore a starting point for your own judgement, not a verdict. Coverage depends on what the sources can reach, so a check can miss a source and can flag one that turns out not to matter. We make no guarantee that a report is complete or correct, and we are not responsible for any academic, institutional, publication, or employment decision made on the basis of one. If a report will inform a decision about somebody, read the matched passages yourself before you act.
Plans and Usage
Alfred Scholar offers Pro and Lab plans with varying usage limits for documents, AI messages, and originality checks. Usage is tracked per workspace and displayed in your billing settings. We reserve the right to modify plan limits, pricing, and feature availability at any time with reasonable notice.
Trials differ by billing country. In India, a 3-day Pro trial is available for a one-time charge of ₹48; starting it authorises a recurring payment mandate, and at the end of the 3 days the workspace continues on Pro at ₹899 per month until cancelled. Outside India, a 7-day Pro trial is provided at no charge and requires no payment method: no mandate is created, nothing is charged when it ends, and the workspace moves to the free plan.
Refunds and Cancellation
- Cancelling: You can cancel a paid plan at any time from your billing settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not cut your access short. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, and the workspace then moves to the free plan.
- Refunds on a paid plan: We refund a paid plan in full if you ask within the first 7 days of that plan. No questions asked. After that the payment is not refundable, though you can still cancel to stop the next one.
- Cancelling the India trial: You may cancel at any point during the 3-day trial, in which case the recurring mandate is not charged and access continues to the end of the trial. The ₹48 trial charge itself is not refundable, because the trial period is consumed as it runs.
- Failed payments: If a renewal payment fails, the payment provider retries it. If it keeps failing, the subscription is halted and the workspace moves to the free plan rather than losing anything: your documents, manuscripts, and citations stay where they are, subject to the free plan's limits.
- Refund timing: Approved refunds go back to the original payment method and typically reach you within 5 to 7 working days, depending on your bank.

Referral and Partner Program
We run a referral program. If you sign up through a partner's referral link and later start a paid subscription, we add one free month to your first paid subscription as a welcome bonus. The bonus applies once, to your first payment only, and does not apply to the trial charge or to the closed Founding Scholar lifetime purchases.
Partners who share referral links do so under a separate written agreement and may earn a commission on the subscriptions they refer. Referral bonuses and partner commissions may be withheld or reversed in cases of fraud, self-referral, or other abuse. We may change, pause, or end the referral program at any time.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy of AI-powered features or originality reports.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alfred Scholar shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to access the service ceases immediately. We may retain limited data as required by law, such as billing records.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the platform. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India. Nothing here removes any consumer protection right you hold under the mandatory law of the country you live in.
