Trash & Recovery
When you delete items in Alfred Scholar, they are not permanently removed right away. Instead, they are moved to the Trash, where you can recover them if needed.
Accessing the trash
Click Trash in the sidebar to see all deleted items in your workspace.
What goes to the trash
The following items are moved to the trash when deleted:
- Documents - Deleted PDFs and their annotations.
- Folders - Deleted folders and their contents.
- Manuscripts - Deleted manuscripts and their content.
- Citations - Deleted references from your citation library.
Viewing deleted items
The trash shows each deleted item with:
- Name - The title of the deleted item.
- Type - Whether it is a document, folder, manuscript, or citation.
- Deleted - How long ago the item was deleted.
Restoring items
To recover a deleted item:
- Go to Trash in the sidebar.
- Click the ... menu on the item.
- Select Restore.
The item is moved back to its original location in your workspace.
Bulk restore or delete
To restore or permanently delete multiple items at once:
- Select items using the checkboxes.
- Click Restore to recover them, or Delete Forever to remove them permanently.
Permanent deletion
To permanently remove an item:
- Go to Trash in the sidebar.
- Click the ... menu on the item.
- Select Delete Forever and confirm.
Warning: Permanently deleting an item cannot be undone. The item and all associated data are removed forever.
Note: Only workspace owners can permanently delete items.
Automatic expiration
Items in the trash are automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days. Restore anything important before that deadline.
