# Syncing Zotero & Mendeley

If you already keep your references in Zotero or Mendeley, you can bring your whole library into Alfred Scholar instead of re-entering anything. Once connected, your references import automatically, and you can refresh them whenever you like.

Zotero and Mendeley sync are available on the **Pro** and **Lab** plans.

## Connecting your account

1. Open **Integrations** in your workspace settings.
2. Choose **Zotero** or **Mendeley** and connect your account with a single click.
3. Authorize Alfred Scholar to read your library.

Your import starts as soon as you connect, so you do not need to do anything else for the first sync.

## What comes across

**From Zotero:**

- Your library items: papers, books, and reports.
- Their metadata (title, authors, year, journal, DOI), ready to cite in any style.

**From Mendeley:**

- Your documents: papers, books, reports, and theses.
- The PDFs attached to each reference.
- The highlights and notes you made in Mendeley, so you can pick up your reading where you left off.

Imported references join your citation library like any other citation. See [Managing Citations](/docs/v1.x/managing-citations/) and [Citation Styles](/docs/v1.x/citation-styles/) for what you can do with them next.

## Keeping your library up to date

Most people set up their library once and refresh it now and then, so syncing stays on your schedule rather than running in the background.

Whenever you add or change references in Zotero or Mendeley:

1. Open **Integrations**.
2. Press **Sync now**.

The page shows live progress while it runs, and your last sync time when it finishes, so you always know how current your library is.

## Plans

Zotero and Mendeley sync are included on **Pro** and **Lab**. See [Plans & Billing](/docs/v1.x/plans-and-billing/) for what each plan includes.
