# Manuscript Images

Add figures, diagrams, charts, and other images to your manuscripts. Images are uploaded and inserted directly from the editor toolbar.

## Uploading and inserting images

1. Open your manuscript in the editor.
2. Place your cursor where you want the image to appear.
3. Click the **Image** button in the toolbar.
4. Select an image file from your computer.
5. The image is uploaded and inserted at your cursor position.

## Supported formats and limits

- **Formats:** PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP.
- **Maximum file size:** 5 MB per image.
- **Maximum dimensions:** 8000 x 8000 pixels.

## Removing images from content

To remove an image from your manuscript content, click on it and press **Delete** or **Backspace**.

## Best practices

- **Use descriptive filenames** - Name your images clearly (for example, "figure-1-results-chart.png" instead of "IMG_4532.png") so collaborators can identify them easily.
- **Optimize file size** - Large images slow down the editor. Resize images to a reasonable resolution before uploading.
- **Add figure captions** - Type a caption below each image using italic text to follow academic conventions (for example, "*Figure 1. Mean response times across experimental conditions.*").
- **Number your figures** - Follow your target journal's figure numbering conventions.
