7-day trials replace the Free plan

Every workspace now starts with a 7-day Pro trial. The permanent Free plan has been removed, and Pro or Lab is required after the trial ends.

7-day trials replace the Free plan

New accounts now start with a 7-day Pro trial. This gives you time to upload papers, ask questions, manage citations, and try the research workflow before choosing a paid plan. The trial length has since been updated to 3 days; see The Pro trial is now 3 days.

What changed

  • The permanent Free plan has been removed.
  • When you sign up, your first workspace gets a 7-day Pro trial automatically.
  • Existing Free workspaces received a 7-day Pro trial from this update.
  • Additional workspaces you create later need a Pro or Lab plan to use plan-limited actions.
  • After a trial or subscription ends, the workspace keeps its data but needs Pro or Lab to continue plan-limited actions.

What stays the same

Your documents, manuscripts, citations, reviews, and chat history are not deleted when a trial or subscription ends. You can subscribe to Pro or Lab from billing settings whenever you are ready to continue.
