Similarity detection for manuscripts

Check your manuscripts for overlap against documents in your workspace before submitting.

Alfred Scholar now includes built-in similarity detection. Check your manuscripts for overlap against documents in your workspace before submitting to a journal.

How it works

  • Open a manuscript and click Run Plagiarism Check.
  • Alfred compares your text against all documents uploaded to your workspace using MinHash similarity.
  • Results show an overall similarity score and matched passages with source references.

What the scores mean

  • Under 10%: Low overlap. Minor common phrases are expected.
  • 10-25%: Review the flagged passages. Some may be properly cited quotes.
  • Over 25%: Significant overlap detected. Review and revise before submission.

Important note

This checks similarity against documents in your Alfred Scholar workspace only. It does not check against the internet or external databases. For a full plagiarism check required by your institution, use a dedicated service like Turnitin or iThenticate alongside Alfred.
